In July 2024, Ryan Magart, Senior Optical Dispenser at the Malvern Optometrist Warehouse store, represented Optometrist Warehouse on Optical Dispensers Australia’s eye care outreach volunteer project in Fiji.
Ryan reported back: "This trip was one of the highlights of my life and I'm so honoured I was selected to attend. Our team screened the vision of 1,300 people and dispensed over 400 pairs of glasses. This included students, teachers, school faculty and members of the local community. During this trip, my main role was to screen for distance and near vision and help manage the clinical flow. It was such a great feeling to help triage refractive errors and correctly determine the tests required for the optometrists to complete.
The people in these rural communities offered us so much generosity and kindness, I have never seen so much joy and happiness in my entire life. It was a privilege to attend, and I cannot wait until the next occasion when I can offer my optical dispensing skills to another initiative."
